Mentor Series - Worldwide Photo Treks!

GUADALAJARA, MEXICO | April 19-24, 2007

Mentor | Dave Black & Doug Menuez

Join Nikon and American PHOTO as we travel to Guadalajara—the heart of Mexico and the capital of the Jalisco region. Camera in hand, you’ll get to know the best of this historic city where a rich past melds seamlessly with a bright, metropolitan future.

Capture her expansive open-air plazas with the backdrop of the legendary Sierra Madre mountains at dusk and the twinkling lights of her illuminated cathedrals at night. Finished in 1618 after more than 50 years of work, the Cathedral is the jewel of Guadalajara and represents a conglomerate of architectural styles that include gothic, neoclassical, and Spanish colonial elements.

Come on our Nikon Treks and try out all of the latest equipment from Nikon! Including world class digital SLRs, Nikkor lenses and the Coolpix line of Digital Cameras.

Imagine having the chance to photograph this vibrant city under the tutelage of two professional photographers who will teach you not only valuable technical skills, but the secret to street shooting and the tips that have taken their entire careers to master. Your mentors for this trip,
Douglas Menuez and Dave Black, have years of experience and are dedicated to helping you improve your photography. Each day has been meticulously planned to make the most of your trip, including initial group reviews and time set aside with your mentor to review the images you’ve shot throughout the day.

After soaking up the glamour and tradition of Guadalajara, we’ll traverse winding mountain roads to the alpine town of Talpapa, “the land of colors,” surrounded by forests, lakes, and streams. In the center of town, wander through the many arches and shoot enchanting red tile roofs and white washed wooden columns in the golden afternoon light. No trek to the Jalisco region would be complete without a trip to the Sierra Madre Mountains to practice your landscape photography among waterfalls, shady trails, and breathtaking canyon views.

We’ll tour a famed tequila distillery where the rich culture of a long-standing tradition still imbues every bottle. Next, we’ll visit the nearby Hacienda El Carmen and Hacienda Sepulveda, where the ebullience of colonial Mexico radiates from elegant chandeliers, and the tiered arches and sprawling green lawns harken back to another era.

Don’t miss this once in a lifetime trip with two of the greatest photographers in the world!

The cost of the workshop is $899.00 (includes workshop fee, lectures, in-field teaching, presentations, digital reviews and transportation to each shooting location)

Note From Mentor

To mentor someone means to take an active and personal interest in their educational process which is why I believe the Mentor Series workshop environment is one of the best ways to learn about photography. It has been my experience that participants gain knowledge and insight about photography from not only the instructors but their fellow Trekkers as well.

My goal is to communicate concepts and information about photography to each participant that they can take home and apply so as to continue improving their pictures long after the trek is over. I always look forward to the group atmosphere and have been impressed by the images people produce. This trek is sure to be a great adventure and wonderful learning experience for all of us. I look forward to meeting all of you.
